Did someone say cake?

Did someone say cake?

Yes unfortunately they did.

I was instructed to bake a cake (or something similar) for my Grandfathers 80th birthday party.

I forgot.

So, on Friday morning I was reminded by the party organiser (my aunt) that I had to produce a cake the following day...

I was struck with fear. Never had I baked any kind of cake that did not come from a premix box that simply required a cup of oil or 3 eggs and a bit of mixing...

What am I going to do for something different???

So I searched and explored the Internet in search for inspiration and some step-by-step guidance... I found an inspirational recipe for something called a Bundt cake...

It was beautiful!

You can have a peek at the recipe and story behind the recipe on one of my new found favourite sites called These Peas are Hollow.

The inspiration...

This is NOT my picture... this picture was taken from These Peas are Hollow

Well my story does not have such an inspirational story...

The mixing of the ingredients went well... I nearly forgot to add the baking powder - but with my final check I saw the packet lying on the counter and wondered why I bought it...

Even the mixing went well and by this time I was feeling quite happy and confident that all will end well...

I thought that these were a bit too full, but then again leftovers are wonderfull to nibble on...

This looks OK - perhaps a bit on the flat side... The smell was heaven and they were sticky, sweet and yummy!!

Here the problems started... HOW in heavens earth am I to get these out of the moulded non stick cake tins? I tried everything, non cook spray, extra butter and flour in the tins... but all I made was seemingly sweet bird food...

So stuff it I thought... Ill just pour whatever batter thats left into a round cake tin and bake it till the cake is done. What I didnt remember was the very high amount of sugar in the batter and the tops turned a sticky yummy caramel (thats NOT burnt!)

So the end result was a somewhat flat Vanilla cake with lime icing... And it was a hit!

Success!
